OUR HISTORY
During an initial vision trip to India in 2004, David Trotter was deeply impacted by what Harvest India was doing among the dalit people in rural villages. His heart was captured by the extreme needs among the poorest of the poor in the world, and he wanted to make a difference.
After returning to India multiple times with humanitarian teams over the next few years, he shared a dream with Suresh Kumar (president of Harvest India) of starting a children's home in Chennai for orphaned or unwanted children in the slums. After a number of challenges, the vision finally came to fruition.
In the summer of 2009, an appropriate home was leased and the Awaken Children's Home was opened with 25 children under the supervision of an amazing pastor and his wife functioning as house parents.
In December of 2009, the entire Trotter family travelled to Chennai to celebrate the grand opening of the home and experience a celebration.

We are passionate about making a significant impact in this world - both in our own neighborhood and around the globe. Specifically, we have fallen in love with the people of India, and we consider it an absolute privilege to help 25 children experience a bright future.

This isn't a large organization where your money is going to overhead. Every dollar goes to help the 25 children in the home. We guarantee it. We've been to India. We've met the children. We believe in this cause.
While the leaders of Harvest India oversee the children's home, a small group of friends in the United States completley fund the project for $875 a month, and we usually take on a special project once or twice a year to fund a special need in the home.
Join us in this effort, and we'll keep you informed about the home and how the project progresses. And, each Summer, we'll make sure you have a chance to personally connect with Suresh Kumar (president of Harvest India) while he's in southern California.

Having been married for 17 years, David and Laura are passionate about helping people awaken to the rich, meaningful lives that are available to everyone. David is the principal of 8TRACKstudios and LAUNCH52, and Laura is a kindergarten teacher. They live with their two children in southern California.

Are all of these children orphans?
Some of the children do not have any parents while others may have only one. The reason why their relatives have allowed them to live at the home is because of the opportunity for quality shelter, food, clothing, healthcare, and an education.
Who oversees the children?
Ultimately, Harvest India oversees the entire project, but there are houseparents who live in the home and care for the children on a daily basis. There are also several other caregivers who are hired to help as well.
How much of my $35 a month goes directly to the home?
100% - there are no administrative costs in the United States, and Harvest India's administrative costs are not funded by your dollars. All of the money goes to the needs of the children.
Am I sponsoring a specific child in the home?
By sponsoring a child within the Awaken Children's Home, you are participating in the funding of the home in a general way. The process of selecting a specific child and developing direct contact would increase the work for the house parents and the volunteer-led organization in the United States.
Is my sponsorship tax-deductible?
As a US resident, your donation is 100% tax deductible. We are a non-profit organization and provide yearly donation statements for your usage.
How can I discontinue sponsoring a child?
Login in to your PayPal account and search for the original transaction. Click "cancal subscription" and your account will not be charged again.
Can I got to India to visit the Awaken Children's Home?
Absolutely. Our next trip is scheduled for the summer of 2011, and we would love for you to join us. Contact us for more information.
